Tennessee senior defensive lineman Darel Middleton was arrested on Saturday morning and faces charges of domestic assault and public intoxication, according to multiple reports.

Middleton reportedly shoved his girlfriend to the ground during the incident that allegedly occurred in an alley behind a Walgreens in Knoxville, Tenn. He then helped her up, hugged her and apologized before later shoving her to the ground again.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, officers responded to a call at 2:44 a.m. ET. Middleton was arrested a short time later at a nearby apartment with a police report indicating Middleton had slurred speech and an odor of alcohol on his breath.

"We're aware of the incident, and we're gathering more information," Tennessee spokesperson Bill Martin told the News Sentinel.

Middleton is scheduled to be arraigned on March 9.

Middleton had 28 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in 13 games (six starts) last season.
