Lanier product Cam Coursey leads a potent Georgia Gwinnett College offense into the NAIA World Series.

Georgia Gwinnett College sophomore second baseman Cam Coursey, a Lanier grad, has been named the Association of Independent Institutions’ Baseball Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Three other GGC players reaped other A.I.I. postseason honors: senior Gregory Loukinen, Pitcher of the Year; senior Brody Wofford, Newcomer of the Year; and Alec Kliphouse, Freshman of the Year. Meanwhile, Head Coach Brad Stromdahl earned the Coach of the Year award.

The A.I.I. also recognized all-conference and Champions of Character team players during Friday night’s pre-championship banquet on the Georgia Gwinnett College campus.

Coursey had a team-high .459 batting average while reaching base safely in 48 of the team’s 51 games. He leads all NAIA players with eight triples and ranks fifth nationally with 85 hits. The Sugar Hill native also had 57 RBIs and scored 58 runs during the regular season.

Loukinen has an 8-3 record in 12 starts, leads GGC with 85 strikeouts and has held opponents to a .214 batting average. He brings a 3.51 earned run average into postseason play.

Wofford has a .360 batting average, seven home runs and 49 RBIs in 47 starts for the Grizzlies.

Kliphouse leads GGC with a 2.34 ERA in 19 appearances as a relief pitcher out of the bullpen. He has also recorded five saves and posted a 2-1 record.

Stromdahl guided the Grizzlies to a 40-11 record during the regular season and the top seed in this week’s A.I.I. Baseball Championship. The team is ranked No. 3 in the final NAIA Top 25 poll.

Georgia Gwinnett College opened the 2019 A.I.I. Baseball Championships on Saturday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex. The 2019 champion will be decided on Tuesday. The conference’s top two teams will automatically qualify for the NAIA national tournament.
