Buford resident Skylar Thompson was one of eight golfers who qualified Monday for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship after a competition at Brookfield Country Club in Roswell.

Thompson, who plays college golf at Ohio State, shot 2-under-par 70 and joined Lambert golfer Rachel Burrell (68) as the only Georgians who advanced to the U.S. Women’s Amateur, scheduled for Aug. 5-11 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

Brooke Sansom of Pike Road, Ala., was the low medalist with a 66.
