A 25-year-old Maysville man died Sunday after being thrown from his motorcycle on Interstate 85 South between the Hamilton Mill Road and Highway 211 exits.

According to Gwinnett County Police Department Cpl. Wilbert Rundles, the 911 caller told dispatchers that a motorcycle, an SUV and a tractor-trailer were involved in the wreck.

“When officers and medical personnel arrived, they discovered that the driver of the motorcycle, identified as Eduard Onufriychuk, had been ejected and died as a result of the injuries he sustained,” Rundles said. “The Accident Investigation Unit was notified and responded.”

Accident investigators determined that Onufriychuk was driving north on the southbound shoulder of I-85 when he tried to swerve to avoid hitting an unoccupied Nissan Altima that was parked on the shoulder of the road, facing south.

“Eduard ... was unable to (swerve) in time,” Rundles said. “His passenger was able to jump off the back just prior to the collision and received minor injuries.”

After hitting the Nissan, Onufriychuk was ejected and landed in the right travel lane of I-85 South, where he was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Notification was made to his nextof kin.
