Gwinnett County homeowners have only a few more days to file their homestead exemption applications.

Tax Commissioner Richard Steele issued a reminder Tuesday that the deadline to apply for the exemption is Saturday. The exemption covers a certain amount of a home’s value when determining how much the owner owes in property taxes.

Homeowners had to own property that they plan to get the exemption for, and use it as their primary place of residence as of Jan. 1 to apply. Officials said once an exemption has been granted, the homeowner does not have to reapply each year.

“Now is the time to make sure you are taking advantage of everything that can reduce how much you have to pay,” Steele said in a statement.

Homeowners can apply online, or check the status of their application, at Questions about the exemption can be sent to or homeowners can call 770-822-8800.
