Minor Elementary on lockdown during search for burglars

Lilburn’s Minor Elementary School was on lockdown Thursday morning as Gwinnett County police search for burglary suspects.

The search, which involves a police helicopter, a K9 and several officers, was concentrated to the area near Shady Drive and Beaver Lane and ended around noon. The intersection is about .2 miles from the school.

The suspects, who reportedly tried to break into a home on Minor Creek Way, still hadn’t been found when the search ended. Police said they might have fled in a car.

Such lockdowns are common as precautionary measures during police searches for suspects near schools.

The men are described as Hispanic, one wearing a white hoodie and blue jeans, the other in all black.

Police asked for residents to dial 911 if anything suspicious is seen in the area.
