Lilburn woman accused of shooting stepfather

Sandra Olver

A Lilburn woman has been accused of shooting her stepfather at their home on Lilburn Stone Mountain Road last week.

Sandra Christine Olver, 54, originally told Lilburn police that her stepfather, Tomas Hall Gaines, shot himself when officers found him alive and bleeding from a wound to the mouth on Sept. 14 at 8:22 p.m.

“Officers noticed inconsistencies in Olver’s account of the shooting and physical evidence at the home,” according to a Lilburn press release. “However, there was insufficient evidence to charge Olver with a crime at that time, and she was allowed to leave.”

The next day at 10:30 a.m., Olver’s daughter called Lilburn police on a non-emergency line to report that her mother was going to commit suicide. Officers arrived at her house and asked Olver why she wanted to hurt herself.

She told them that she had shot Gaines.

Olver was booked into Gwinnett County jail that same day on charges of aggravated assault and murder. She’s being held without bond.
