The National Association of Letter Carriers on Saturday will conduct its 25th annual Stamp Out Hunger! Food Drive, which organizers have called the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
Last year, with the help of thousands of volunteers, letter carriers across America collected nearly 80 million pounds of non-perishable food, which brought the total to more than 1.5 billion pounds. More than 290,000 pounds were collected in metro Atlanta last year.
To donate, people should leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near their mailboxes on Saturday before letter carriers deliver. In the days leading up to the food drive, letter carriers were expected to deliver special bags to be used to bag donations. Donors can use their own bags, too.
Food collected will be delivered to local community food banks and food pantries for distribution.
A brief ceremony to announce “NALC Food Drive Day in the State of Georgia” will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in front of the Boggs Road Postal Store at 1605 Boggs Road in Duluth. The public is invited to attend.
