Buford’s only contested race on Tuesday’s municipal election ballot has resulted in a new school board member.

Kathleen Perkins Welch overwhelmingly defeated Lien Diaz by a margin of 839 votes to 205 votes in the election. Welch will replace Pat Pirkle, who did not seek re-election this year, on the city school board.

School board member Bruce Fricks was re-elected without opposition, as were City Commissioners Chris Burge and Brad W. Weeks.
