Gwinnett Police Asst. Chief Mindy Bayreuther recently learned counterterrorism techniques and technologies from police professionals in Israel.

Bayreuther participated in the 24th annual peer-to-peer public safety training program organized by the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange — or GILEE, according to a Georgia State University news release.

The program is a public safety partnership between the university and local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies.

Bayreuther was part of a delegation of police chiefs, sheriffs, a Georgia commissioner and an inspector from public safety and law enforcement agencies, Steven Heaton, executive associate director, said in the release.

“GILEE hosts public safety exchanges, conferences and experts who introduce best practices in law enforcement to police and other public and private safety professionals to enhance their capabilities to serve citizens in this area,” Heaton said

Law enforcement from Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department in New York, and police departments in Alabama and Washington accompanied the 15 Georgia delegates, Heaton said.

GILEE has graduated more than 1,350 public safety and law enforcement officials from worldwide in more than 380 training exchange programs, Heaton said. About half are from the U.S. and mostly from Georgia, according to the release.
