Educators in Gwinnett County who received paychecks in May will be soon be getting a bonus of sorts.
Members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Thursday unanimously approved a one-time salary adjustment payment of $300 to all active full-time, benefited employees in Gwinnett Count Public Schools who received a payroll check in May 2019.
The one-time adjustment is due to savings related to the employer contribution the district pays to the State Health Benefit Plan. GCPS superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks elected to pass that savings on to teachers.
The district took similar actions in 2014 and 2016.
The district received notification on May 15 from the Georgia Department of Education, through the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget that all state agencies and state school districts will be participating in a one-month State Health Benefit Plan employer contribution holiday for the month of June 2019.
The salary adjustment will be paid in a lump sum on the June 2019 monthly or second semi-monthly paycheck. The payment will have no effect on the state-legislated salary increases included in the FY 2020 budget. These raises will take effect beginning with employees’ first salary payments for the 2019-20 school year.
