Gwinnett County Public Schools announced the six finalists for its district Teacher of the Year Award on Tuesday.
A selection committee of GCPS educators will narrow the list down to a high school, middle school and elementary school Teacher of the Year. One of those three teachers will represent the school district for the state award.
The school-level finalists and district award winner will be announced at a banquet on Nov. 14 at the Infinite Energy Center. All 139 local school Teachers of the Year will be recognized that evening.
Finalists are judged based on classroom observations and interviews with conducted by the selection committee. Committee members look for high levels of engagement, a positive and academically-challenging learning environment and learning experiences aligned to the Academic Knowledge and Skills curriculum. Teachers are also judged based on their originality, influence over their own colleagues unique class projects educational degrees and community involvement.
