A Grayson man was killed while boating with his young son on Lake Hartwell after their boat was hit by a ski boat Saturday night, according to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources official.
Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for DNR’s Law Enforcement Division, said Brandon Dean Wilson, 39, was in a small boat with his 6-year old son at the time of the collision. The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. near Eastanollee Creek on the lake, which is located on the Georgia-South Carolina border.
“It appears that a small Jon boat being operated by an adult male with his 6-year-old son on board was struck by (a) ski boat,” McKinnon said. “The operator of the Jon boat, Brandon Dean Wilson, 39, of Grayson, was located in the water deceased.
“The child had on a life jacket and was uninjured in the incident. He was pulled from the water by a passenger in the ski boat.”
Game wardens from DNR, along with Stephens County sheriff’s deputies and EMS personnel, responded to the incident. Wilson’s body was turned over to the Stephens County Coroner’s Office.
McKinnon said Georgia DNR’s CIRT is investigating the incident and that the investigation is expected to take about six to eight weeks to complete.
