Three North Carolina men were charged with drug trafficking Tuesday following a traffic stop that uncovered 70 pounds of marijuana on Interstate 85 near Hamilton Mill Road.

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Georgia Bureau of Investigation West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office agents arrested 34-year-old Phetprasong Souriyo, 28-year-old Brandy Souriyo and 30-year-old Somphone Thongkhamdy, all from Charlotte, as “part of an ongoing investigation into subjects trafficking marijuana via the I-85 corridor from metro Atlanta north to neighboring states,” a GBI news release said.

Agents seized about 70 pounds of marijuana, which was located in suitcases in the trunk of the men’s vehicle. The marijuana is estimated to have a street value of more than $200,000.

The GBI’s West Metro task force, a multi-agency unit that consists of multiple agencies and covers 36 counties, is continuing to investigate.
