SUWANEE — Collins Hill High School reported a spike in absences on Friday following a text threat that circulated around social media.
School district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said additional police were on campus at the school as a prudent and precautionary step.
The school reported 36 percent of its students, or more than 1,100, were absent out of an enrollment of more than 3,100 students.
The text threat and absences were not believed to be related to a string of fights at Collins Hill and involving Collins Hill students last week and last weekend. Those incidents brought additional police to the school on Monday, and the school changed its dismissal procedures to avoid students congregating in hallways.
