It's been quite a spring of team state championships already for Gwinnett County, which already has six of them in the past month or so. It may become seven if Providence Christian can win later this week at Charlton County.
I've been entering those Georgia High School Association state titles into our database and watching the impact on our list of Gwinnett's all-time team state championships. Most of the movement this spring has been at the top of that list, with perennial winners Parkview, Brookwood and Greater Atlanta Christian combining to win five of the six.
It's been a particularly good spring for GAC, which won three championships, all in girls sports. The Spartans won their first-ever girls soccer championship, won their third girls golf title since 2007 and won their third girls track and field crown since 2005. All three were won by longtime GAC coaches — Troy Bendickson in soccer, Brad Kinser in track and Gary Richey in golf.
Parkview (baseball), Brookwood (boys track) and Collins Hill (boys soccer) also picked up team state championships this spring, adding to their already impressive all-time championship totals. Those three schools have set the standard among Gwinnett schools for winning championships in the highest classification.
Parkview's baseball championship was its 50th all-time state title, most among Gwinnett schools. Brookwood (48) is a close second place and GAC (47) is in third after closing the gap on the two Class AAAAA schools this spring.
Collins Hill is in fourth with 39, one more title than Wesleyan. After Collins Hill, the next AAAAA school on the list is Peachtree Ridge with 10 all-time team titles.
Do you think Parkview will hold onto the lead for years to come? Can Brookwood catch the Panthers? Or will a private school, like GAC or Wesleyan, pass them both?
Here's a current look at how the school-by-school team state title chart looks:

Parkview opened in 1986, Brookwood opened in 1981 and Collins Hill opened in 1994. We won't discuss the private schools....
so...
Parkview 50 divided by 25 years equals 2 per year Brookwood 48 div by 30 years equals 1.6 per year Collins Hill 39 div by 17 yrs equals 2.2941176 per year...
just a little math for those on summer break.
