WILL'S WORLD: McCann profiled in SI Kids book

Brian McCann's resumé already looks pretty darn good.

Six all-star appearances in his first six full major-league seasons. An all-time Braves best of five Silver Slugger Awards as the National League's best-hitting catcher. His popularity off the field is sky high. Heck, he even had a wine named in his honor (anyone remember McCann's Merlot?).

Now the Duluth High product has really hit it big — he's in a children's book.

McCann is one of 15 major-leaguers chosen for Sports Illustrated Kids' new hardback book "Pro Files: Baseball," subtitled "Intel on Today's Biggest Stars AND Tips on How to Play Like Them." The book presents profiles on the star players, then offers specific coaching tips from each player. McCann keeps good company in the book with guys like Mariano Rivera, Albert Pujols, Justin Verlander, Roy Halladay and others.

McCann's six-page spread in the magazine touches on plenty, including multiple mentions of Duluth and loads of stats. It also lists his favorite things like actress (Jessica Biel), team as a kid (Braves), pre-game music (Jason Aldean) and hobby (playing Xbox).

A major portion of each player's section is "Secrets to his Game," which allows the pros to give tips on the game. With good reason, McCann addresses hitting with diagrams and even a quote from his father Howie, a former college baseball coach who runs Windward Baseball Academy.

It's a neat honor for Brian to be in the book, which is something his kids will love one day. And speaking of kids, it's too bad this book didn't come out when I was younger. I would have loved it.
