THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: Fright Night

Halloween is near and that means it is time for scary movies. I always try to watch a scary movie on Halloween and I have recently found that I enjoy zombie movies a lot so this year the official Halloween night movie will be “Night of the Living Dead.” The original one.

In addition to zombie movies, I also enjoy the funny/scary ones. I like to laugh after having just put my hands over my eyes because I was too scared to watch. You know, to lighten the mood. I also like a good edge-of-your-seat scary movie. One where some crazy stuff is happening, but you aren’t sure what is causing it.

Here are my Top 10 favorite scary movies.

10 “28 Days Later” – Holy scary fast zombies.

9 “The Ring” – This movie made me scared of the phone and the TV for a few days.

8 “The Shinning” – Super creepy Jack Nicholson, redrum, scary twins, bloody elevator and the last shot blows my mind.

7 “Scream” – The best of all the “Screams.” A movie that pokes fun at all scary movies but still remains pretty scary at the same time. And one that points out all the rules of a horror movie. Every time I see one of the rule setups in another movie, I always think of “Scream.”

6 “Let the Right One In” – The Swedish one. This one is scary, awesome and creepy all at the same time. Do not make that tiny vampire mad.

5 “Cabin in the Woods” – Joss Whedon is a genius and it is a great original plot with lots of scary monsters and a great twist.

4 “Lost Boys” – I had a huge Corey Haim crush as a kid, so this was a must watch movie every time it was on. So many good lines. My favorite: “You’re a vampire, Michael! My own brother a [expletives deleted] vampire! Boy, you wait ’til Mom finds out, buddy!”

3 “Shaun of the Dead” – I love this movie. It makes fun of the zombie genre and might be the funniest scary movie out there. It is great. I love the zombie killing scene set to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.”

None

2 “Poltergeist” – I have watched it so much, it doesn’t scare me anymore but I love it. Well except for that creepy clown and scary tree scene, that still scares me. And I have always wanted a kitchen with that awesome/spooky slidey spot.

1 “The Omen” – Love, love, love this movie and it still scares the bejesus out of me. The evil nanny, the evil dogs, the antichrist, the photos that predict death and Oscar winner Gregory Peck!

I like to take the whole day off and have movies playing all day in the background while I get the house ready for the influx of small costumed children. There are a bunch of good ones on TV this Halloween. AMC is showing the “Halloween” films. TCM is playing a bunch of monster movies like “Frankenstein,” “The Mummy” and “The Wolf Man.” VH1 is showing “Lost Boys.” IFC has “The Exorcist,” BBC America “The Shining,” MTV “Friday the 13th” and FX “Zombieland.” So many to choose from, I’m so excited! I love Halloween!

What will you be watching this Halloween?

Great list! Mine would look very similar to yours. I watched "Trick R Treat" this weekend. Worth checking out. And if you want something scarier, try "Insidious."
