THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: What happens when TV goes on summer break

The latest season of TV is coming to a close and everyone is taking off for summer break.

Oh sure, there is some new programming but nothing that interests me. But I’m OK with this because I like to use this time to watch movies, read books and catch up with shows I didn’t watch when they first aired.

There is just something so satisfying as watching a whole season of a show in a week or two. Or even a few days if you are like me and like to watch all the episodes on a disc in one sitting. It is just so easy to start the next episode up to see what happens and before you know it, it is 2 a.m. And since it is already late, might as well watch the last episode on that disc, right?

Last summer, I watched “The Wire” and am so glad I did. It is great and I get so many more references on TV now.

This summer I have decided to catch up on “Breaking Bad.” It is one of those shows that everyone loves, but I didn’t watch it when it first came out so I got behind. I aim to fix that this summer.

I will have to watch “Breaking Bad” fast because AMC just announced the return date for season five. AMC will air first eight episodes of season five starting July 15 and air the last eight episodes of the season next summer. I guess eight episodes is better than no episodes, but it seems frustrating they would stretch the last season out a la "The Sopranos."

I’m also thinking about trying out “Battlestar Galactica.” (The one from this century, not the one from the ’70s with Face from “The A-Team”). My friends say I would like it and it is part of one of my favorite openers to “The Office” You know back when that show used to be consistently funny and Jim sat across from Dwight).

What are you planning to watch this summer?
