I recently visited the Movie Tavern in Suwanee and I have to say it was pretty nice.
The ticket prices are comparable to other movie theaters and the food and drink are no more expensive than if you went out to eat at a Chile’s or Applebee’s. I have to say I really enjoyed the Grilled 4-Cheese Panini with Pesto. And it is nice to enjoy an adult beverage while watching a movie. This could make being dragged to the last of the “Twilight” films a tiny bit more bearable. A tiny bit.
The seats are really, really nice. At other dinner and a movie theaters I have been to, there have been large long countertop tables in front of you to eat off of with regular movie theater seats or roller chairs. In the Movie Tavern in Suwanee, you get to sit in a cushy leather seat and you have your very own table attached to your chair. On it is a button you can use to call your server over to attend to your hunger or thirst needs.
While cushy seats and personal food attendants are nice, my favorite thing the theater does is play old movies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Not just movies that recently moved to DVD but movies that haven’t been in theaters for many years. Last week it was “Goonies” and this week it was “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Next week is “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.”
This is perfect for people who were too young to see these movies in the theaters when they came out. While TVs are getting bigger all the time, it is called the big screen for a reason and great movies should be seen on the big screen. “Raiders” is my favorite movie of all time and I have never seen it on the big screen. How sad is that? But now I can rectify that. I am betting that I will probably see more old movies at the Movie Tavern than I will new movies.
So there is a good chance you will see me there on Tuesday or Thursday enjoying a grilled cheese and trying very hard not to press the button just to see how fast the server can get to my table because the Suwanee Movie Tavern might be the perfect place for dinner and a movie.
