THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: Getting excited about music in Midtown

Music Midtown just announced the lineup for this year’s event and it snagged some pretty big names. Especially if you grew up on ’90s music like I did.

The Foo Fighters will rock Friday night and Pearl Jam will take over on Saturday. I’ve seen both of these bands live and they both put on really fun shows.

And you can’t beat the price for these bands. Tickets went on sale Saturday and early bird general admission tickets are $55 for a one-day pass and $100 for a two-day pass. Eventually tickets will increase to $65 for one-day and $120 for two-day passes.

While it looks like a lot, it really isn’t that bad. I sometimes pay that much to see just one band and at Music Midtown you get to see a bunch of bands. The festival’s lineup is really good and there is something for everyone this year.

On Friday the lineup includes Foo Fighters, Van Hunt, TI, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts and The Avett Brothers and Pearl Jam, Ludacris, Girl Talk, Florence and The Machine, Civil Twilight, LP, O’Brother are set for Saturday with more bands to be announced.

So that is at least six or seven bands each day for around $50 which isn’t too shabby.

And while the big bands draw me into the festival, it is discovering new smaller bands while waiting for the familiar bands to play that makes me love festivals like this. Last year, I went to Music Midtown for The Black Keys, Manchester Orchestra, Cage the Elephant and Coldplay but discovered I really liked Young the Giant, The Joy Formidable and Walk the Moon.

This year, I am super excited to see Pearl Jam again but I am also excited to hear what TI and Ludacris bring to the festival. I have no idea who or what Van Hunt or O’Brother is so that will be a fun surprise and I am sure Girl (don’t call him a DJ) Talk will put on a fun dance party.

Who are you most excited about seeing at Music Midtown?
