You want to know what's going on in the Suwanee Police Department, then I challenge you to sign up for their Citizens Police Academy. I did and it was quite the eye-opener. Go to http://www.suwanee.com/cityservices.police.php for the registration information. Here's information about the CPA...

Believing that the best weapon against crime is an informed citizen, the Suwanee Police Department is once again offering its popular Citizens Police Academy. Over the past eight years, more than 300 individuals have participated in this hands-on, eight-week program.

Classes for this spring session will be offered at 6:30 Tuesday evenings beginning March 20 at the Suwanee Police Department, 373 Buford Highway. Those wishing to participate must provide notarized applications by 5 p.m. Friday, March 2.

The program offers residents a better understanding of the day-to-day functions, risks, and experiences of Suwanee police officers. Topics addressed include crime scene processing, traffic stops, building searches, crime prevention, and narcotics identification.

Here's what 2011 Citizens Police Academy participant Michelle Budd had to say about her experience: "I really enjoyed the orientation program…. The enthusiasm and passion that was shown by each of you is very inspiring. It is obvious that policing is not just 'what you do,' it is part of 'who you are' and it comes from your heart."

I know someone who just got a ticket going down McGinnis Ferry Road from Satellite toward Buford Highway. I've also seen them near the elementary school. They're around!

State law says that a police departments budget cannot contain more than 10% of revenue earned from traffic fines. So, I doubt that's what they're concerned about. I know several of the officers in Suwanee and what they're really concerned about is not having to notify someone's next of kin that their loved-one is dead as a result of someone speeding.

Don't you think it would have been a good idea to investigate whether or not the toll lanes would be used BEFORE you spent millions of $$ implementing them? SMH...
