I am confused. The TEA party wants a vote on the airport but doesn't want people to vote on the TSPLOST?
If the beginning premise is "The No. 1 cause of traffic congestion in Gwinnett has been road construction" then any information on the Georgia Taxpayers Alliance is equally flawed.
Interesting to note the the villains in the HOT story were initially GDOT & the politicians that authorized it. Now the bad guys are the people who pay to use it. Strange turn of events as the tolls on the HOT lane actually prove it works.
Congrats to Chuck Warbington and the entire CID team for the work they have accomplished thus far. Without Chuck's quiet leadership none of this would have occurred. I applaud his persistence and patience in galvanizing this community to help themselves and my best wishes for the Village CID continued success.
$100 million in reserves and you are furloughing teachers and increasing class size? Isn't this the reason you have reserves or contingency funds? What's wrong with this picture?
What is wrong with interested parties, both pro and con, spending money to educate and make their case to legislators who are voting on the issue. Given there are 179 Representatives and 56 Senators, this represents average expenditure of $43.14 per person. Does anybody think any Rep or Senator will sell his/her vote for $43.14?
After 8 years of creating chaos and animosity at Snellville city council meetings, Mayor Jerry wants to bring his "Consensus" building to the county commission? That ought to liven up the commission meetings. Wonder if the sheriff will provide armed escorts to the restrooms?
This was a vote for power, money, control and teachers unions (oops Associations). Quality education was the loser while mediocrity rules.
Always enjoy your column because it is real - real situations, real people, real relationships. Not the usual pap from columnists who try to be funny and usually aren't or those who think they need to be over the top and usually are. Keep up the good work.
"We the people" is popular among TEA party folks but their leaders complain about the TSPLOST that gives the power back to the people to decide whether or not to tax themselves. Even worse they distort the information about the issue and threaten public officials if they provide the facts so voters can make well informed choices. They don't seem to understand that public officials are expressly prohibited from campaigning for referendums. And their threats sound very much like the tactics of a school yard bully that we are trying very hard to eliminate from our schools and communities.
It is disappointing to see a movement, so promising in the beginning, deteriorate into a platform for a few power hungry individuals.
