Nobody says it better than my friend Jimmy Orr. HB159 is dressed up like a taxpayer benefit when in fact it is an unfunded mandate to the counties and municipalities that will cost the honest taxpayers more in the long run. Tell your Representative to kill this charlatan.

Not surprised that you found the Speaker to be affable and relaxed. Disappointing that your column continues to be an incessant stream of sarcasm in spite of your meeting.

It's about time someone exposed this for what it really is - bad legislation. I can't imagine the BOC is okay with passing on these increased costs to the voters. Can't imagine that the honest citizens want to bear the increased costs of the deadbeats.

Not only would this legislation increase the cost of billing (which would be passed on to the taxpayers) but it also increases the amount of bad debt. Under the current system the collection rate is about 99%. With separate bills for stormwater, trash, street lights, etc the collection rate will fall to <90%. and the 90% will see their fees increased to cover the bad debt. While it is possible, I know of no homeowner who has been foreclosed upon because they didn't pay a fee. This ill advised legislation which is why it never got out of committee the last time it was introduced during the 2011-12 session.

ptm4936 1 year, 2 months ago on YARBROUGH: Legislators may finally be getting the message on lobbying limits

Right from the Common Cause playbook - "it has a lot of holes in it... a small step in the right direction." What a joke. Josh and the other Senators just pandered to you and others clamoring for ethics reform with a Senate rule, not legislation, that resembles Swiss cheese. And as much as you despise the "lizard-loafered lobbyists" they are only following the rules of the game.

One of the true public servants. It was a pleasure to have him as my commissioner and more importantly as a friend. My best wishes for whatever the future holds.

Angels cannot get enough credit for the work they do in others time of need. Often they are not aware of the impact they have with their gifts of service to others. Thanks Susan for highlighting those large and small acts of kindness and caring that distinguish a community from a neighborhood. Keep up the excellent work.
