pondering 10 months, 1 week ago on 75 percent of SPLOST proposal could go to transportation

The headline used the words "Could be used". The trails and parks are used by the few not the majority. I believe they are paid for with the SPLOST. I believe the work in the downtown area is funded by SPLOT also. Squeaky wheels in Lilburn get no where. Unless you are one of the few. As NorcrossDot put it, when we can elect people that can manage the money, then I will vote for it. When we can elect people that will not lie to you just to get your vote, then yes, I will vote for it. It is not just city funds they manage. They also manage SPLOT funds.

I will vote NO on the tax. If our elected officials would spend as much time on the quality of life issues it may be a different story. Try going to the City of Lilburn Code Enforcement and get something done. Their answer is they cannot afford to enforce the codes. They do not have the man power or money. But, we are getting a new city hall and downtown. Monuments to our great elected officials they build for themselves. I have been here since 1968. Back then the city was responsive to our needs. We did not have gangs of kids roaming the streets at night. If you called about an issue, it got taken care of or you at least got an explanation why not. Now, they ignore you and say they cannot afford it. Even the police in Lilburn will tell you this, off the record of course. One Lilburn officer recently stated he was looking elsewhere for work. The officer said Lilburn is going downhill fast and the City leadership does not appear to care.

pondering 1 year, 1 month ago on Mayor objects to councilman's leave of absence

Yes our city council is no different than many others. Power and Perks is the word. They talk out of both sides of their mouth. If you have ever had a conversation with the Mayor you would know what I am talking about. Tax money wasted every day with them and their pet projects. They spend more time on their parks and walkways than the actual problems with Lilburn. Crime is rampant. Do you see them addressing this, NO. Areas of town are decaying while they continue to spend large amounts of money on bad projects. Let the man go on the hike and dock his pay.

pondering 1 year, 1 month ago on Crime down over past five years in Gwinnett Place area

Where have all the criminals gone. They came to Lilburn. This year alone we have had a shooting, robbery, criminal arrests of new residents and just last night another robbery., in one neighborhood. According to the police there were up to 5 of the same type last night in the immediate area. We report issues around here and nothing gets looked into. Decaying properties reported. city drives by and slows down to look but never even stops to check it out. Junk vehicles allowed also. Great place to live and get robbed. Can't even sell house. Prospects say they would not live in this area due to conditions. We have Great City leaders. They really look after the citizens.

I am a decades long tax payer in Lilburn. No, we did not vote for this expansion. No, we do not want it. The administration wants it. An informal poll in our neighborhood, 80% say it is a waste. You cannot go to the city meetings and speak, you will be ushered out if you do not agree with them. Our money would be better spent cleaning up and making safe what we already have. We do not go out after dark around here anymore. The city will not enforce codes they write. At one point a city employee was told not to enforce the codes in our neighborhood. And they don't. We cannot even walk down the street without fear of being run over by a speeder, with no drivers license or insurance at that. We need to fix what is broke before we build more. The walkways and parks are of no value if the people using them would not even live here due to the conditions. The city does nothing to protect my property values.

pondering 1 year, 4 months ago on Lilburn man critical after being shot during robbery

This shooting shows how the city of Lilburn is letting that area of town erode. Very little police enforcement or code enforcement.
