Don't romanticize it. You're talking about the big 3 national horse races that everyone knows about. That doesn't compare with the dozens? (a hundred or so?) of the smaller, lesser known horse racing tracks around the country that no one but locals have ever heard about. Day in, day out they run races with mostly empty stands and the same general seediness. Just because we build a new track here in Georgia doesn't somehow catapult us into national prominence like the hosts of the Triple Crown.
While I appreciate the athletic beauty of a good horse race and know that a lot of effort goes into raising and training a thoroughbred race horse, the unfortunate joined-at-the-hip 'other side' of this industry involves the very shady gambling industry, not known to attract honest, upstanding individuals. Too bad you can't separate the two. Why is it (think 'tax structure' and 'big government') we can't work on attracting honest businesses to employ and solve our state's thirst for income; instead we have to consider gambling as our saviour - video gaming at old AT&T site @ Jimmy Carter / 85S, lottery in all forms, or now horse race gambling..... pitiful state of affairs.
Don't confuse stormwater with sewerage; stormwater runs down the street after falling from the sky and sewerage is what is flushed down the toilet/runs down the drains of our homes. If you have a septic system instead of being tied into the county sewer system, your monthly water bill does not have an extra charge for sewerage. Those of us that are tied in, are charged more for what leaves the house than what enters it.
The stormwater 'authority' recently came out to our neighborhood to replace a collapsed corrugated pipe under the stop-sign corner of my neighbor's corner lot. When they finally completed this simple job 3.5 muddy months - and countless phone calls - later, the two original opposing storm sewer catch basins (on opposite sides of the little 4-house side street that tees into my street) now had three additional catch basins installed, for a total of 5 catch basins within 50 feet of one another. All to service a little col-de-sac that has never seen more water than a garden hose could supply, running down its curbs. Not to mention that my side of the street, on the opposite side of where that little cul-de-sac tees into it, only has one catch basin for about 600 yards of pavement, and all the water flow is on our side of the street - a virtual river - every time it rains. I have never seen such a money wasting, illogical, common sense defying, engineering fiasco in all my days. Now THAT, my friends, is your government 'authority', and your tax dollars, at work......
Knock-down depends on caliber and, to some degree, the physical size of the target. The lady with the intruder was probably shooting a .25 cal. pea shooter or something with no shock value.
The first article on the Brown/Johnson incident mentioned the father going upstairs to retrieve articles of clothing that belonged to the daughter. One doesn't need to stretch too far to figure out what was going on up there and it helps explain the fury of the father and their return to the scene at 3am. The interval between her initial departure and the family's return is not mentioned.
Nothing good happens at 3am; certainly proper justice and an equitable outcome cannot be expected, especially showing up without law enforcement. Bet the dad never expected THAT outcome.
Organized labor is what put Hostess out of business - the Obama voter army. Notice how organized labor, not a week after they elected Obummer, came around looking for their rewards. They may have won the battle but they lost the war (with Hostess management). I hope they enjoy the unemployment line.

Gwinnett Cty. needs to come clean with what campuses Lackey worked at during his tenure so other victims may be identified. Don't take the catholic church approach and put the school system's reputation before exposed children's families' right-to-know. Rarely is there just one victim with sexual predators.
Wow, what a tragedy. A day of fun has become a desperate fight for survival with huge life-altering changes already in her young life, at the very bloom of her adult life. Will be praying for her survival and recovery. God's ways are not ours!
I wonder, did she 'catch' the bacteria at Tanner Medical in Carrolton where the initial treatment of her injury took place?

Sounds like they went easy on him, based on how drunk they allege he acted.
