Please not another dime for the libraries. Print books sales fell over 9 percent in 2012.
People are reading less. A number of magazines and newspapers have ceased publication because everything can be found over the internet. Even Barnes and Noble
was disappointed in their Nook sales.
First and foremost any monies should be spent on police and fire protection.
STOP letting people outside of the county use the computers for free! If one has to have a library card to check out books, even from out-of-county, then one should also have a library card to use the computer. Sounds simple. But the library system has done nothing over the past few years to deserve continued funding? Having fashion shows with librarians wearing shredded books? A disastrous soap opera book signing, having to pull religious artwork on display in a library because they are offending people.
Kent is right; we are overfunding too many libraries. Norcross is a few miles away from the Peachtree Corners branch. Suwanee is a couple of miles away from the Buford branch. Consolidate and close a couple of libraries and the library system will save millions.
I do not plead for library funds. The libraries waste money like Congress. What has the library system done in the past year? Held a fashion show with librarians wearing shredded books, had a disorganized signing for a soap opera book, was asked to take down religious artwork from a branch, decided to renovate branches while the system is not at full operating hours or even have the materials people are requesting. Libraries need to lead by example and this library system has done no such thing. There is NO justification to keep library funds at their current level. Funds should be cut further.
The whole GCPS school board should be fired immediately!
Could not have said it better myself; especially about getting those out of office that are not listening to the public majority.
I agree with Rascal myself. IS this a community center where my children can play basketball or other sports activities after school? Can my mother come her and play bingo or poker with her friends? Is this facility actually designed for the average residents of Buford? I'd be more impressed if the article actually listed what services the community center will provide.
Why not highlight this artwork at the Duluth Arts festival or the Dogwood festival or a church? Why did it have to be a library? My grandmother would say the library directors are a few flapjacks short a stack in their way of thinking.
There are plenty of posters a library can obtain from the Library Association to put in any library. I am religious, but having religious artwork in a library; it's just the wrong venue. With the shorter hours and less resources, one would think the Gwinnett Libraries would want to highlight their collection of adult, teen, and children's titles.
