Shia LaBeouf blossoms as an actor in the part of Jack Bondurant. His portrayal demands a full range of emotions. He is surrounded by one dimensional characters of detached brutality which make his performance even more outstanding. He begins the movie as the youngest brother with naivete that leads to a fearful encounter. Later, his innocence is convincing as his feet are washed by a preacher's daughter of a nearby church. A touching scene occurs as Jack talks with the daughter in a buggy. You can feel the that Jack genuinely smitten. By the end of the movie, LaBeouf has become a contributing member of the family business and all that is required. A definitely award winning performance.
