Hi Mack711: The county commissioners have been giving $500,000 per year to the Gwinnett Chamber/Partnership Gwinnett. Gwinnett County Public Schools has been paying the salaries of 2 economic development managers with education funds since 2007 at a rate of approximately $150,000 per year, the Gwinnett Conventions & Visitors Bureau has been giving them $100,000 per year, the cities in Gwinnett have made payments, the CID’s have made payments, the Gwinnett Industrial Development Authority has made payments, the Norcross Downtown Development Authority has made payments, and Gwinnett Tech and other government entities have made payments. Millions and millions of taxpayer dollars have been given to the Gwinnett Chamber/Partnership Gwinnett.

This is NOT true. Taxpayers have been giving over $1 million per year to the Gwinnett Chamber.

I filed open records requests that show GCPS does not have one shred of documentation to support their claim that they received $6 million in return for paying chamber salaries. Your statement is based on the assumption that the chamber generated $800 million in economic activity. The chamber has not provided any credible documentation to prove they generated $800 million in economic activity.

We asked for an explanation of the numbers that do not stand up to scrutiny several months ago and have heard nothing since then, despite numerous promises from BOC members who said taxpayers deserved a credible explanation.
Don’t forget that GCPS admitted they have never asked for any substantiation of the claim that the Gwinnett Chamber/Partnership Gwinnett generated $800 million in economic activity. GCPS does not have one shred of paperwork to support their claim that paying the chamber salaries resulted in $6 million going to the classroom.
Also do not forget that the claim of $800 million in economic activity was made to other government entities that provide funding to the chamber, and they apparently never questioned it either.

The graduation rate of 67.6% for GCPS was printed in the spring bulletin. One third of GCPS students do not graduate in 4 years.

Even though Gwinnett's rate is about average for Georgia, there are 111 Georgia school systems, or 60%, that have higher graduation rates than GCPS.

I applaud the efforts to increase the college graduation rate in Georgia. What is being done to improve the Gwinnett County public school graduation rate? I wonder if most people know that ONE THIRD OF GWINNETT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS DO NOT GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL.
What action does the Gwinnett County Public School Board plan to take to reduce the high school dropout rate in Gwinnett County? Does anyone think it is acceptable to have a 67% graduation rate from Gwinnett County Public Schools, which is touted as the #1 public school system in Georgia?

I called Galectin to ask how many jobs would be in their headquarters in Gwinnett. I was told they are a small company and there would be only 3-4 people here. We welcome Galectin to Gwinnett.
