Dickens 1 year, 7 months ago on New library hours not result of new spending

Just proves the library system has been wasting money all along. Now all of a sudden they can extend hours? So they are paying more for personnel yet are scaling back the new releases and materials people are looking for. One won't find common sense in the library board.

Dickens 1 year, 9 months ago on Commissioners approve budget tied to tax increase

The library should charge for their services. Doesn't a museum charge?, the zoo? the theatre? Instead you can come from any county and use the computers for free and if you are a Gwinnett resident you are left waiting sometimes 20-30 minutes to use the computer. Instead of having a in-doors used book sale they only sell books on the internet. Even these days, people like to see the book and possibly flip through the pages before buying it.
Most people just come to the library to use the computers. Why even bother the librarians when they almost always show a disinterested, impolite demeanor. Please, not another dime for the libraries.

Dickens 1 year, 10 months ago on Library budget cut 'harsh,' board members say

I just saw in the AJC vent a few days ago someone wishing that Santa would bring smiles to the Gwinnett librarians. It's true; they do not smile. And it's not because of the funding. It's because they are dictated everything single thing to do. A librarian can't even do a story time; someone is brought in to do it for them. My favorite librarian was in tears at the Suwanee library because she says her manager always stays in the office, rewrites everyone goals and expectations to what she wants and not what they would like to learn, and basically has no clue of how to help when it is busy at the library. What's worse is that they move people around to other libraries whenever they want. One person was at the same library for 10 years and all of a sudden her "talents" were needed at another branch. What B.S. It's all politics with the same good ole girls as directors. They need to clean house and clean house now.

Dickens 1 year, 11 months ago on Five Forks Library to reopen to public

Why spend millions on renovating these libraries when vending machines are sufficient? Library dvd borrowing has fallen sharply during the past year and according to Library Journal's July 2012 patron profiles, even among high school students, teens are less likely to say the library is important to them. And Publisher's Weekly OCT 23, 2012 issue supports the same statement. Teens and older people are using the library less. This all has been a total waste of taxpayer money just to boost the ego of the library director.

My condolences to this family; but I cannot believe the bad press nationwide the GCPS is getting from this. The school board showed be removed from their posts.

Dickens 2 years, 2 months ago on New Buford community center impresses locals

With the number of foreclosures in this county I see every Thurs in The Gwinnett Daily Post, the food banks running low on food, pet shelters overwhelmed, this is how Buford decides to spend $15 million dollars.. I hope 20/20, Nightline or some other show puts the spotlight on Buford and the incredibly wasteful building they have built.

Dickens 2 years, 3 months ago on MOVIE REVIEW: Batman series ends with a thud

2 out of 4 stars! This movie should be 5 stars. I have seen probably every superhero movie ever made and TDKR is one of the most emotional, moving, and thrilling comic movies of all time. What's best is that every supporting Batman character rallies to help Batman when Gotham City is cut off from the rest of the world. It's not just about the extraordinary hero but the everyday civilian heroes that perform extraordinary deeds.

Dickens 2 years, 3 months ago on The Daily "Post" - July 19, 2012 - Preacher art removed

One complaint? I know of several people that wrote, called the library offices, and vented themselves about what the library was doing whether it was right or wrong. But right now the citizens of Gwinnett should be more concerned with important issues such as the transportation vote at the end of July.
