Mill Creek’s Matthew Grimes and North Gwinnett’s Chris Hawkins took the top awards Monday night at the Gwinnett Dugout Club’s season-ending banquet.

Grimes was named the pitcher of the year in voting by the county’s baseball coaches, while Hawkins was named player of the year. Region 8-AAAAA champion Parkview was selected as team of the year and the Panthers’ Chan Brown was named coach of the year.

The club also named Buford’s Casey Laws, Central Gwinnett’s Nathan Berryman, Grayson’s Jed Hixson, Norcross’ Reggie Stancil, Parkview’s David Palmer and Providence’s Scott Strong as assistant coaches of the year. Dacula coach John Poitevint was honored for surpassing the 400-win milestone during the season.

Four new members were inducted into the Dugout Club Hall of Fame — Brookwood’s Lance Layson, Duluth’s Brad McCann, North Gwinnett’s Charlie Blackmon and North Gwinnett’s Danny Sawyer.
