Gwinnett gets 10 in all-star game
The high school basketball season won’t end with the state tournament for 10 players from Gwinnett County.
Five boys and five girls were selected for the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s North-South Classic, which has been expanded to showcase juniors as well as seniors this year.

The high school basketball season won’t end with the state tournament for 10 players from Gwinnett County.
Five boys and five girls were selected for the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s North-South Classic, which has been expanded to showcase juniors as well as seniors this year.
Games will be played at Savannah State College on March 20 and 21, with the juniors taking the court the first day and the seniors the second. Play begins at 2 p.m. each day, with the girls game first.
The Greater Atlanta Christian boys, ranked No. 1 in Class AA going into the state tournament, and the Parkview girls, unbeaten and ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAA, each had two players selected.
The Spartans will be represented by Trent Wiedeman, who has signed with the College of Charleston, and junior Malcolm Brogdon. Florida State signee Lauren Coleman and junior Katie Carroll are the selections from Parkview.
Parkview’s Mike McCoy was picked to coach the North team in the girls senior game.
In addition to Wiedeman and Brogdon, the Gwinnett selections for the boys games are University of Connecticut signee Jeremy Lamb of Norcross, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA, and juniors C.J. Blackwell of Peachtree Ridge and Saah Nimley of Collins Hill.
Greater Atlanta Christian’s Chaney Means, who has signed with Western Kentucky, joins Coleman on the senior girls team coached by McCoy. In addition to Carroll, the junior girls picked from Gwinnett County are Katie Mallow of Brookwood and Grace Leah Baughn of Wesleyan.
All 10 of the Gwinnett selections play on teams that made the state tournament. First-round state tournament games are Friday for boys and Saturday for girls.

Just because someone plays Varsity for 4 years doesn't make them all-star material. Brittany Jack doesn't even deserve to be mentioned. Her stats were produced from a parent and were not accurate. She has no offers. And an all-around player??? Where is the defense. She is not on the same level as the other two players mentioned. FYI...it isn't hard to make varsity when there is hardly anyone trying out. Briana Jordan and Moneisha Simmons are amazing players, but come on...Brittany Jack shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence.
I am shocked at the girl selections for the state all-star game. To totally ignore players from Region 7 (also in Gwinnett County) is not fair. Ignoring Senior players like Moneisha Simmons, Brittany Jack, Briana Jordan (All around players)is unbelievable. I'm advocating that these young ladies have played varsity for 4 years and their stats warrant consideration. They also play in an extremely competitive region. There appears to be some bias!!!
What criteria is used when selecting the girls all-star teams? I don't see Taren White as being selected and I believe she leads the county in scoring.
