The following is Shirley Lasseter's official resignation letter that was emailed to County Administrator Glen Stephens obtained by the Gwinnett Daily Post.
Residents of Duluth were shocked by recent news that the city's former mayor of 14 years and county commissioner pleaded guilty in federal court to accepting bribes. Some felt, however, that others should not "throw stones" at the 64-year-old public official for her actions.
Former Duluth mayor Shirley Lasseter has resigned from the Board of Commissioners. She pleads guilty to bribery charges on Thursday.
Commissioner will step down after one term in office.
