Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno called the situation involving the alleged abuse of at least eight young boys by his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky “a tragedy” on Wednesday, adding that he should’ve done more to stop it.

College football’s all-time winningest head coach, Penn State’s Joe Paterno, is fired late Wednesday night by the school’s board of trustees just a few hours after he announces his plans to coach the rest of the year, then retire at the end of the season.
