Stefan Gartrell won the AAA Home Run Derby on Monday night, taking the $500 prize and receiving a retro jersey from former Atlanta Braves star Dale Murphy, a Utah resident.
Although the AAA All-Star Game isn’t until tonight in Salt Lake City, one of the three Gwinnett Braves who will play for the International League has already had a memorable trip.
Stefan Gartrell tuned up for the AAA Home Run Derby by going deep twice Sunday and the G-Braves (50-41) defeated Charlotte 6-4 at Coolray Field for their 12th victory in the past 17 games.
And with 16 on the season entering Thursday, the Gwinnett Braves outfielder was selected as one of the three International League's participants in the Triple-A All-Star Game's Home Run Derby.
Gartrell leads G-Braves with 16 home runs
On literally a dark and stormy night, Gartrell walked into Coolray Field a member of the Charlotte Knights and left on a bus with the Gwinnett Braves.
