Dan Pirkle

Mr. Dan Pirkle, age 76, of Buford, GA passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Pirkle, Jr. and Jewell Brogdon Pirkle; daughter Ginger Pirkle; and brother Donald Pirkle. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat Taylor Pirkle, Buford, GA; daughters and sons-in-law Deborah Pirkle and husband Robert Clark, Duluth, GA, Beth and Wayne Samples, Cumming, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Toni Pirkle, Winder, GA; grandchildren, Hollie Bryson and Ryan Handschub, Juli and Patrick Adamson, Heather Landers and Shane Winters, Torrie and Dan Souther, Barbara and Kurt Osgood; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Varnell Rucker, Crabapple, GA, Virginia and Martin Keller, Jasper, GA; aunts, Montie Brogdon Thompson, Buford, GA, Lula Mae Pirkle, Buford, GA, and Judy Pirkle, Buford, GA; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Pirkle was born June 6, 1935 in Buford, GA. He was a lifetime resident of Buford, GA, “the town he loved.” He was a 1953 graduate of Buford High School and was a U.S. Naval Reserve veteran with honorable discharge. He was a member of the Buford Housing Authority for nineteen years and was retired from Gwinnett County Water System. He was a member of Buford First United Methodist Church since 1947. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Johnson and Reverend Sondra Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Buford, GA. Golden "Goldie" E. Brooks, age 84 of Loganville, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011. A member of New Testament Baptist Church in Loganville, Mr. Brooks was a retired truck driver for Roadway Express, was an Air Force Veteran of WWII, and a member of the American Legion. Clyde Poole

Clyde W. Poole, 89, of Duluth, GA, died November 8, 2011. The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10th, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross. A private burial will follow at Big Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, Canton, GA. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9th, at the funeral home. Mr. Poole was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, a member of the Pioneers (Bellsouth), and member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and First Christian Church of Lawrenceville. He retired from Bellsouth where he worked as a lineman after 32 years of service. Preceded in death by son, Jack Poole and sister, Helen Goodman, he is survived by his wife, Fannie J. Poole; daughter, Glinda (Jim) Bailey; brother, Lamar (Charlotte) Poole; sister, Ernestine Sosebee; grandchildren, Kim (Alan) Hopkins and Kacy (John) Freeman; and four great-grandchildren, Avery and Hailey Hopkins and Ella and Jack Freeman. Mr. Fred S. Hoefer Jr., age 88, of Buford, GA passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Betty Hoefer, Buford, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert Heaton, Piedmont, SC, Jane and Mike Grabusky, Sugar Hill, GA and Judy Clemmons, Jacksonville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Fred S. Hoefer III and wife, Kim Hoefer, Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Erika Howell, Lindsay Hoefer, Matthew Stone and Amanda Clemmons; two great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Toni Hoefer, Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hoefer was born July 28, 1923 in Ithaca, NY. He was a 1942 graduate of Morristown High School in Morristown, NJ and a 1948 graduate of Cornell University where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the 104 Infantry Timber Wolf Division. He retired from Cornell University in 1976 and retired in 1986 as a Director of Food Services in Oconee County, SC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, GA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince Of Peace Catholic Church, 6439 Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542 with Father Eric Hill serving as Celebrant. Royce Brandon

Royce Lee Brandon, age 94, of Lilburn, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Bill Head Funeral Home, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, with Rev. Rob Burdette and Mr. Lindsey Smith officiating. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth. A native of Griffin, GA, Mr. Brandon was retired from Georgia Tech University. He was a Major in the U.S. Air Force, was a veteran of WWII, and was a member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucile Martin Brandon of Lilburn; daughters and sons-in-law, Susie & Larry Myers of Daphne, AL and Rikki & Robert Johnston of Acworth; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; step-daughters, Sue & Keith Hix of Lilburn and Joann Staples of Texas; 4 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren and 2 step-great great grandchildren. William Bell

William Gordon Bell, Jr. age 85 passed away October 23, 2011. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years Frances Janette Bell, daughters and sons in law Carolyn and Mike Millen, Sandra and Mike Ruffing and his only granddaughter, Elizabeth Ruffing. Gordon enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his country on the U.S.S. Rolette during WWII. Gordon was a deacon who faithfully served God at Columbia Drive Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. He worked at Sears in various capacities for 46 years. Gordon was an avid runner in his earlier years, a golfer after retirement, and an enthusiastic Georgia Bulldog football fan throughout his life. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday October 26, 2011 at Wages & Sons Funeral Home Gwinnett Chapel with Dr. Lamar Holley officiating. Interment will be at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends Tuesday October 25, 2011 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Clarence Harold Porter, age 76 of Loganville, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, October 23, 2011. Graveside Services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Grayson. Rev. Tim Brogan and Rev. Mixon Cowart will officiate. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Russell Lee Porter and brothers, Clyde Dewitt Porter, James Royce Porter, Earnest Ray Porter, Russell Eugene Porter and sisters Judith Katherine Crowe, Addie Ruth Peavey, & Avis Mardell Whitley. He is survived by his Sisters: Evelyn P. Boyett, Statham; Marjorie Lois Holbrook, Loganville; Doris Montrillau Spain, Grayson; Shirley Frances Roebuck, Buford; Brother: Raleigh Lee Porter, Loganville; many Nieces & Nephews. Mr. Porter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grayson and served as a deacon & usher there. He served in the U.S. Army & the GA. National Guard in the 878th Combat Engineer Battalion. Mr. Porter worked for the United Wholesale Druggist, Inc. for 20 years & was self-employed for 20 years as a residential & commerical painter. He loved his church & church family. Mr. Porter loved his parents, brothers & sisters very much & tried to be there to help during difficult times.
