For the last six years Gwinnett County has been denied an outright Class AAAAA state championship.
THE BLITZ: Gwinnett makes mark on state playoffs
When the playoffs started, Camden County was the clear favorite to win the Class AAAAA state championship. The Wildcats were the two-time defending state champions and ranked No. 1 in the state.
I like to think Gwinnett County has the best football in Georgia. Some people might argue that, considering Gwinnett hasn't won a Class AAAAA state title since 2002. (Those people are also below the gnat line.)
Hope you had a great Halloween, I know I did. It's one of my favorite holiday's. As an adult, it's the one time of year you get to dress up like a fool. I went the Mr. Clean route this year.
Can you believe it? We are down to just three weeks left in the regular season. As the season comes to an end, there's one thing I keep hearing from coaches 'we got a lot of kids banged up, but everyone does at the this time of the year.'
If there was any doubt that North Gwinnett was the best team in Gwinnett County, the Bulldogs should have put it to rest on Friday. The Bulldogs dismantled a very good Norcross team in every phase of the game. The only blemish for North was a big kickoff return and a few penalties. Otherwise, it was a dominant performance on both sides of the ball in the 38-0 victory. I really think if North wanted to score 50 points in that game it could have. Everything was working for the Bulldogs and just about everything wasn't for Norcross.
How about those Atlanta Braves? They are back in the playoffs after clinching the wild card on Sunday.
This is it, this is what we've all been waiting for the last eight or nine months. Football season is finally here. A few of Gwinnett County's teams kicked off last week, but the rest of the county gets in the action on Friday.
It's the final week of the high school football season and Buford is one of 10 teams in the state left playing. That's become a regular theme for the Wolves this decade. Buford will play in its eighth state championship game on Friday against Calhoun in the Georgia Dome.
