Jackson EMC Foundation awards $82k in grants to Gwinnett agencies
The Jackson EMC Foundation Board of Directors awarded $82,000 in grants to organizations serving Gwinnett County residents, including $15,000 to Exodus Outreach, $10,000 to Camp Twin Lakes and $6,000 to the Gwinnett Public Library.
Other grant recipients include the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team, Extra Special Peopl, the Spectrum Autism Support Group, Camp Kudzu, the Side by Side Brain Injury Club and the Cross Pointe Church Food Pantry.
The Jackson EMC Foundation was founded in 2005 and has awarded over $8 million to local community organizations and individuals since. Members of Jackson EMC who participate in Operation Round Up have their monthly electric bills rounded up to the next dollar, with the extra money going to the Foundation.
Any individual or charitable organization in the ten counties served by Jackson EMC may apply for a grant online at www.jacksonemc.com/foundation-guidelines or at local Jackson EMC offices. Applicants do not need to be members of Jackson EMC.
SPCA offers vaccination clinic on Saturday
The Georgia SPCA will offer a low-cost vaccination clinic for pets at its Suwanee location from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24. Tests and shots offered include rabies, canine bordatella, canine heartworm and both canine and feline distemper. Microchipping, deworming and nail trimming services will be offered as well. Heartworm medication will also be available for purchase. Prices range from $10 to $25 depending on the test or shot.
The clinic will be first come, first serve and no appointment is necessary. The SPCA asks that all dogs be on leash and all cats be in a carrier. If your pet has had allergic reactions to vaccinations in the past, they ask that you take your animal to your regular veterinarian instead. There is no office charge for the clinic and all proceeds help benefit the animals and services of the Georgia SPCA.

Simon Kidgits Club to hold cooking event May 24
Sugarloaf Mills will host a Simon Kidgits Club Super Duper Lil Chefs event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24 in the food court.
The event aims to teach children about the craft of cooking and how to have fun with food. The hands-on atmosphere will involve both parents and children in a variety of activities, including cookie decorating, pretzel rolling and creating chef hats. Additionally, the event will celebrate the release of “Sophia Grace and Rosie’s Royal Adventure” on DVD by teaching attendees how to balance a teacup and decorating tiaras and crowns. Children are encouraged to help those in need by bringing a non-perishable food item to the event to donate to their local food bank.
