Georgia Gwinnett College earned the top seed in the opening round bracket of the NAIA baseball tournament, which the Grizzlies are hosting this week.
The No. 1 seed Grizzlies are 48-10 and won the Association of Independent Institutions championship tournament last week. GGC is ranked No. 6 in Friday’s latest NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
Action begins at 11 a.m. Monday in Lawrenceville with Game 1 between No. 4 Westmont (Calif.) and No. 5 St. Francis (Ill.). The Grizzlies will play the Game 1 winner in their first game at 6 p.m. Monday.
At 2:30 p.m. Monday, No. 2 Southeastern (Fla.)and No. 3 William Woods (Mo.) will face off.
Action continues Tuesday at 11 a.m. and wraps up Wednesday evening or Thursday afternoon, if necessary.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament will advance to the NAIA World Series May 23-30 in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Grizzly Baseball Complex offers bleacher seating for around 500 fans and spectators also may bring lawn chairs. The facility was opened in 2013 and features a state-of-the-art natural grass playing surface.
Free parking is located in the parking deck at the main entrance to the GGC campus. Handicapped drop-off access is located adjacent to the ticket building and a shuttle to the field is available upon request.
The No. 2 is to Southeastern (Fla.), the Sun Conference tournament champion. The Fire (44-14) stand at No. 17 in the latest top 25 poll.
The No. 3 seed is William Woods (Mo.), the champion of the American Midwest Conference tournament. The Owls are 39-10 on the season and are receiving national votes, just outside the top 25.
The No. 4 seed is Westmont (Calif.). The Warriors (38-17) earned an automatic berth after winning the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament. Westmont reached the top 25 for the first time earlier this season and the Warriors also are receiving national votes in Friday’s poll.
The No. 5 seed is St. Francis (Ill). The Fighting Saints (36-20) were the regular season champions of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Georgia Gwinnett, Southeastern and Westmont are each making their first national tournament appearances. William Woods will be making its second appearance since 2011, while St. Francis is making its fourth appearance and first since 2012.
Tickets for the Lawrenceville Bracket will be available on site for $25 adult/$12 youth for an all-tournament pass, or $10/$5 for single-game tickets. For NAIA championship play, GGC Claw Cards and Grizzly Season Passes will not be honored.
All games of the Lawrenceville Bracket will be video streamed live online on the Grizzly Digital Network with play-by-play commentary from voice of the Grizzlies Matt Mahony. Each game will be $7.95 through Stretch Internet, while a tournament pass is available for $24.95.
