ATLANTA — Ousted from last year’s playoffs and beaten in the region tournament this season by Lovett, the Wesleyan girls got some sweet revenge Thursday.
The Wolves defeated rival Lovett 3-1 in the third round of the Class AA state tennis playoffs with a singles sweep.
Sophia Strickland, Lauren Alexander and Savannah Strickland all earned points for the Wesleyan (18-5) win.
First Presbyterian 0
DULUTH — Providence Christian won three points before First Presbyterian could get any and advanced to the quarterfinals in the state playoffs Thursday.
Oglethorpe County 0
LEXINGTON — A balanced attack led the Wesleyan boys soccer team to a 5-0 win over Oglethorpe County on Thursday in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.
Five different players — Will Sharon, Benji Johnson, Nick Eversbusch, Bryce Cook and Cort Coxhead — scored for the Wolves.
Wesleyan (10-8-1) led 2-0 at the half and then put away Oglethorpe County to advance.
Coahulla Creek 3,
Buford 2 (OT)
DALTON — Buford fell 3-2 in overtime to Coahulla Creek in Thursday’s first round of the Class AAA playoffs.
Tied 1-1 after regulation on a goal by Christian Salgado, Buford’s Alan Cabalerro scored a goal in overtime. But Coahulla Creek scored two in the extra time and ended the Wolves’ season.
Salgado scored in the 30th minute on a cross from Colin Owens and Cabalerro’s goal in the 85th minute was assisted by Conner Regan.
GAC 19, North Atlanta 6
ATLANTA — Catie Wood poured in five goals and an assist to lead Greater Atlanta Christian to a 19-6 drubbing of North Atlanta on Thursday.
The Spartans (9-9) had plenty more offense to back up Wood. Emma Gorman had four goals and an assist, Laura Fazekas added two goals and three assists, while Savannah Gray and Lizz Calhoun each had a hat trick in the regular season finale.
Peachtree Ridge 12,
LOGANVILLE — Darby Frisbie had a hat trick and was among seven goal scorers in Peachtree Ridge’s 12-9 win over Grayson on Thursday.
McKenzie Casal, Devin Strickland and Leanne Davis all had two goals for the Lions. Izzy Ivory made 18 saves in net.
Peachtree Ridge secured the No. 4 seed in its area and will open the playoffs against Chattahoochee on Tuesday.
GAC 10, Starr’s Mill 2
NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian bounded into the playoffs with a 10-2 victory over Starr’s Mill in the regular season finale Thursday.
Parker Stevens, Jake Rose and Britt Kennedy all scored twice for the Spartans (13-5, 9-1). Gunner Cape and Knox Martin added a goal and an assist each. Kevin Shrake was 4 of 6 on faceoffs.
GAC opens the postseason against St. Pius on Wednesday.
Wesleyan 9, Brookwood 8
SNELLVILLE — Aaron Smay made 18 saves and Wesleyan edged Brookwood 9-8 on Thursday.
Offensively, the Wolves (11-6) were led by four goals from Matt Zimmerman.
