Parkview student charged after throwing punch in fieldhouse

LILBURN — A Parkview High student was charged with battery this week following an incident in the school’s fieldhouse on Tuesday when he allegedly threw a punch that broke a classmate’s nose.

Gwinnett County Public Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said the student who allegedly threw the punch has “received disciplinary consequences from the school” and the ongoing investigation was turned over to School Resource Officer David Seibles. An incident report filed by Seibles said the altercation happened at 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday.

Roach said the student was charged as a juvenile.

11Alive News reported that the alleged victim, David Egan, a sophomore at Parkview High School, was confronted by another student and accused of stealing tennis shoes, his father Daniel Egan told the television station.

“He hit him very hard at the top of his nose, which means he actually broke where the nose connects to the skull,” Egan was quoted as saying of his son’s injuries.

Egan said his son had reconstructive surgery Wednesday morning.
