Local group provides support for survivors of suicide

The Gwinnett Survivors of Suicide Support Group began meeting in January providing support for any adult who has lost a loved one to suicide.

The group’s next meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, and thereafter on the fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting will take place at Eastside Medical Center, South Campus, 2160 Fountain Drive, Snellville, in the first floor classroom. The support group is free to attend and coffee and snacks will be served.

Snellville business to host fundraiser for man in need of heart transplant

Mellow Mushroom at 2000 Main St. E. in Snellville will host a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to close Saturday, March, 29, to benefit Matt Davis.

Davis was diagnosed eight years ago with dilated cardiomyopathy and his condition has progressed to where he is now living with a left ventricular assist device, an LVAD for short, that assists his heart as a bridge to a heart transplant.

The restaurant will donate 10 percent of proceeds from the entire day to go toward Davis’ medical expenses. For more information, call 770-736-9396. Donations will be accepted online at MattDavisHeart.blogspot.com.

Suwanee food blogger chosen as Whole Grain Ambassador

Suwanee resident and food blogger Leslie Mayorga, who runs the site Leslie Loves Veggies, is one of only 20 bloggers who have been chosen as a Whole Grain Ambassador for the upcoming Whole Grain Sampling Day.

Whole Grain Sampling Day is April 2 and companies and bloggers across the country are taking part in the whole grain celebration. The event is a nationwide, annual initiative designed to introduce consumers to the health benefits and tastes of whole grains.
