PREP ROUNDUP: Meier hit gives Storm win in extra innings

ATHENS — Zach Meier drove in Caleb Carter in the top of the eighth inning with the winning run as Providence Christian’s baseball team defeated Athens Academy 4-3 Thursday night.

Meier’s game-winner was one of his four hits in the game for the Storm (5-5, 3-0).

Jackson Winskie was the winning pitcher, tossing seven innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out six. Winskie helped his own cause by belting a solo home run for Providence. Carey Spratlin earned the save by striking out the side in the bottom of the eighth.


North Gwinnett 5,

Habersham Central 1

SUWANEE — Adam Corn pitched a complete game as North Gwinnett defeated Habersham Central 5-1 on Thursday. Corn struck out seven and improved his record to 2-0 on the season for the Bulldogs (7-3, 2-0).

Eight of the nine starters for North had one hit apiece to lead the balanced attack. Wes Brooks drove in two runs and Zach Tindol and Ben Carswell drove in one each.

GAC 17, Duluth 2

NORCROSS — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Duluth 17-2 in three innings Thursday night.

Connor Joseph and Will Lovett each belted three-run home runs for the Spartans (7-2). Ross Wood had three hits and two RBIs while Devin Daugherty had two hits and drove in four runs for GAC.

Lanier 9-11, Chestatee 3-0

SUGAR HILL — Lanier swept a doubleheader from Region 8-AAAA foe Chestatee on Thursday.

Matt Ramsay picked up the win in the first game for the Longhorns. Trenton Little drove in two runs and Anthony Valvo and Kristoff Reitig each had two hits.

In Game 2, Little picked up the win on the mound as T.J. Richardson had four hits and drove in four runs. Valvo and Cameron Coursey each had three hits for Lanier (8-3, 2-0).

Parkview 7, Berkmar 1

LILBURN — Christian Vann pitched Parkview to a 7-1 win over Berkmar on Thursday. The Panthers improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Buford 14, Banks County 4

BUFORD — Buford defeated Banks County 14-4 Thursday night in six innings.

Jake Higginbotham was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 in four innings. Caleb Moore drove in three runs for Buford (8-0, 5-0). Ben Wicker and Patrick Burnette each had three hits for the Wolves.

Mountain View 8,

Peachtree Ridge 0

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View scored eight runs in the first inning and defeated Peachtree Ridge 8-0 Thursday.

A.J. Moore was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game shutout and striking out 10.

Ben Utley had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Bears (10-1, 1-0). Robert Kwiatkowski drove in two runs and Josh Logan scored two runs for Mountain View.

Loganville 9, Collins Hill 6

LOGANVILLE — Collins Hill fell to Loganville 9-6 on Thursday. William Holland and Trevor Powers each had two hits for the Eagles.

Mill Creek 9, Norcross 6

NORCROSS — Logan Moseley hit a two-run home run and picked up the win in relief as Mill Creek defeated Norcross 9-6 Thursday night.

Austin Geist drove in three runs with a pinch hit for the Hawks (5-7, 1-1).

Jacob Bayer and Alex Thibodeaux led the Eagles by shooting 37 and 41, respectively. Mitch Darley led the Hawks with a 41.

MONROE — Hebron Christian fell to George Walton 166-195 Thursday afternoon.

Jaden Miller and Tommy Walsh each shot 47 to lead the Lions.

Blake Padilla of Mountain View and Sean Derossett of Duluth tied for low medalist by shooting 39.

Jordyn Sims was low medalist for Duluth with a 40, while Hannah Magda had the low round for the Bears carding a 43.

NORCROSS — Mountain View swept Meadowcreek 5-0 Thursday night.

Courtney Condley, Brianna Sequeria and Brittney Link won singles matches for the Bears (7-4). Rose Moody and Maggie Barth along with Erica Ebitz and Madison Palomba won double matches for Mountain View.

Jenna Soucia and Carlie Overley along with Lindsey Wong and Meg McRee won doubles matches. Morgan Buchholz, Lauren Byrd and Victoria Inman were singles winners for Lanier.

BUFORD — Buford remained undefeated with a 5-0 win over North Hall on Thursday.

DACULA — Parkview defeated Dacula 4-1 Thursday night.

Sierra Larkin and Savannah Larkin won singles matches for the Panthers. Abbie Nelms and Haley Keith along with Cassidy Carswell and Esther McDonald won doubles matches for Parkview.

DULUTH — Peachtree Ridge improved to 6-4 overall and 5-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA with a 5-0 win over Collins Hill on Thursday.

Laura Kelly and Samantha Wang along with Mary Frances Greenwood and Sreeja Choppara won doubles matches for the Lions. Singles winners were Jena Kelly, Ali Mills and Riley Guise.

R.J. Clement and Ryan Olps won singles matches for the Bulldogs (10-4, 3-2). Carson Southard and Blair Redmond along with Ethan Gilenson and Colton Baker won doubles matches for North Gwinnett.

SUGAR HILL — Lanier remained undefeated in Region 8-AAAA with a 5-0 win over Walnut Grove on Thursday.

After a scoreless first half, Kyle Petmecky headed in a free kick from midfield to break the drought for the Storm (3-5, 2-1). Nick Hoehne netted a free kick and Ted Cheo iced the game for Providence Christian with a goal late in the second half.

NORCROSS — Chase Parker scored in sudden death overtime to lift Mountain View over Norcross 13-12 Thursday night.

Parker and Nick Logan scored five goals each for the Bears (3-4). Brandon Eady had two goals and Andrew Tacto had one goal for Mountain View.

LOGANVILLE — Grayson improved to 8-0 with an 8-7 win over Brookwood on Thursday.
