SUWANEE — Retirements caused leadership changes in four Gwinnett County Public Schools elementary schools, and the new leaders were approved on Thursday.
Brookwood Elementary Assistant Principal Cheri Carter will assume the principalship role at her school after Karen Head retires at the end of the school year. Carter has worked at Brookwood Elementary since 1988, first as a third-grade teacher, and then as an assistant principal since 2006.
Knight Elementary Assistant Principal Angelique Mitchell will soon lead Ferguson Elementary after Julie Peyton retires at the end of the school year. Mitchell began working in Gwinnett schools in 1992, and has worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Walnut Grove Elementary and Meadowcreek Elementary, and as an assistant principal at Rockbridge Elementary and Knight.
Partee Elementary Principal LaVerne Lynn Rush will also retire at the end of the school year, and be replaced by Kimberly Dyer, assistant principal at Lawrenceville Elementary. Dyer began working in Gwinnett in 2004 as a fourth-grade teacher at Norcross Elementary, and later taught math at Partee before she moved to Lawrenceville in 2008.
Ellyce Cone, an assistant principal at Winn Holt Elementary, will soon lead the school following the retirement of the school’s principal, Jim Curtiss. Cone worked as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Dacula Elementary, and has worked at Winn Holt since 2008.
