Free health fair set for Saturday

A free health fair, including free health screenings and educational seminars, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 22 at Medical Plaza 1 in Braselton.

The free screenings offered will include balance/falls risk, blood glucose (fasting preferred), blood pressure, carotid artery disease/stroke, varicose vein, lung function, sleep disorders, foot evaluations, peripheral arterial disease (registration required, call 770-219-3840), hearing, musculoskeletal and BMI analysis.

The health fair is open to the public, and a light continental breakfast and free giveaways will be provided.

Attendees are invited to tour Medical Plaza 1 and learn more about the services provided. Medical Plaza 1 is at 4875 Thompson Mill Road in Hoschton on the campus of the future Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2015.

Suwanee food blogger chosen as Whole Grain Ambassador

Suwanee resident and food blogger Leslie Mayorga, who runs the site Leslie Loves Veggies, is one of only 20 bloggers who have been chosen as a Whole Grain Ambassador for the upcoming Whole Grain Sampling Day.

Whole Grain Sampling Day is April 2 and companies and bloggers across the country are taking part in the whole grain celebration. The event is a nationwide, annual initiative designed to introduce consumers to the health benefits and tastes of whole grains.

Parkinson’s Support Group to meet

A support group for individuals with Parkinson’s and their caregivers will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the Centerville Community Center at 3025 Bethany Church Road in Snellville.

John Thompson, a longtime Centerville resident and Parkinson’s patient will coordinate guest speakers and meeting topics.
