PREP ROUNDUP: Mill Creek boys soccer beats Norcross in marathon penalty kicks session

NORCROSS — Mill Creek defeated Norcross 4-3 on Thursday when the Hawks were able to win a marathon penalty kick shootout 8-7.

Billy Johnson, Josh Arceneaux and Jake Creech scored in regulation for Mill Creek.

In penalty kicks, both teams connected on their first seven shots. Mill Creek missed, but Dave Smith made a save to keep the Hawks in the game. After a Mill Creek score, Norcross missed the net to give the Hawks the win.

BOYS SOCCER

Duluth 4, Mountain View 2

DULUTH — Nikolai Iotov scored two goals to lead Duluth to a 4-2 win over Mountain View on Thursday.

Humberto Zunta and Jose Oliveros each scored a goal to help the Wildcats (6-0, 2-0).

Zair Sebastian and John Menlah scored for the Bears.

Brookwood 2,

South Gwinnett 1

SNELLVILLE — Alfredo Rivera scored a goal and had an assist as Brookwood defeated South Gwinnett (5-3, 2-1) in an early season showdown for the top spot in Region 8-AAAAAA on Thursday.

Brahan Gamarra scored on a feed from Rivera for the Broncos’ (10-0, 2-0) other goal.

Northview 2, Wesleyan 0

NORCROSS — Wesleyan fell to 4-3-1 on the season when the Wolves dropped a 2-0 match to Northview on Thursday night.

Lassiter 5 (9 innings)

SUWANEE — Monty Horn singled in Alex Keown in the bottom of the ninth as Collins Hill defeated Lassiter 6-5 on Thursday.

Austin Gonzalez picked up the win, pitching a scoreless inning. Gonzalez also had two hits and drove in a run for the Eagles. Cole Zabowski and Al DelVillar had three hits each while Riley King added two for Collins Hill.

Grayson 1, Loganville 0

LOGANVILLE — Matthew Entriken pitched a complete game shutout as Grayson defeated Loganville 1-0 on Thursday. Entriken allowed four hits and struck out two as the Rams improved to 3-6 on the season. David Stinson had a double and drove in the lone run for Grayson.

Dacula 3, Winder-Barrow 1

DACULA — Johnathan Grant pitched five innings and allowed one run to help Dacula to a 3-1 win over Winder-Barrow on Thursday.

Jack Peebles picked up the save while Dallas Richards drove in a run for the Falcons (6-4).

Jefferson 1, Wesleyan 0

JEFFERSON — Wesleyan dropped a 1-0 decision to Jefferson on Thursday night.

Christopher Peeden was the tough-luck losing pitcher, tossing five innings and allowing only an unearned run.

Norcross 13, Alpharetta 3

NORCROSS — Norcross improved to 7-2 on the season with a 13-3 win over Alpharetta on Thursday in six innings.

Brooks Buckler pitched all six innings to post the win. Mike Perez had four hits and drove in two runs for the Blue Devils. Andrew Lightle and Griffin Helms had three and two hits, respectively.

Meadowcreek 3, Berkmar 0

NORCROSS — Austin Wilkey pitched a complete game shutout as Meadowcreek defeated Berkmar 3-0 on Thursday night.

Shea Wilkey had two hits and Mason Bermanrd drove in two runs for the Mustangs (2-6).

Peachtree Ridge 15,

South Gwinnett 3

SNELLVILLE — Peachtree Ridge pounded out 17 hits as it defeated South Gwinnett 15-3 in five innings Thursday.

Nick Gatewood had three hits and four RBIs to lead the Lions (7-3). Drew Wharton and Jared Stedman each had three hits and drove in two runs, while Matthew Traywick had two hits and two RBIs for Peachtree Ridge.

Chad Smith led South (2-8) with two hits.

Buford 10, Providence 0

LILBURN — Buford defeated Providence Christian 10-0 in five innings Thursday.

Nick Willhite pitched five innings and struck out 11 to get the win for the Wolves. Austin Upshaw had three hits and drove in three runs for Buford. Joey Bart had two hits and a home run for Buford.

Garrett Whitlock pitched four innings for the Storm (2-5), allowing only one unearned run and striking out four.

NORCROSS — Norcross defeated Meadowcreek 5-0 on Thursday night. Jessica Lackey, Kristie Teoh and Eunice Lee won singles matches for the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-0). Rachel Luttrell and Michelle Huseonica, along with Allison Schreter and Ashley Schreter, won in doubles.

Peachtree Ridge 5,

Mountain View 0

DULUTH — Peachtree Ridge swept Mountain View 5-0 on Thursday. Jena Kelly, Sreeja Choppara and Riley Guise won in singles for the Lions (4-4, 3-0). Samantha Wang and Laura Kelly, along with Amrutha Chintalapudi and Shubhangi Jain, won doubles matches for Peachtree Ridge.

Buford 5, Fannin County 0

BLUE RIDGE — Buford remained undefeated (10-0, 4-0) with a 5-0 sweep over Fannin County on Thursday. Savannah Whaley and Abbey Mitchell, along with Peyton Wolfe and Katie Quinn, won doubles matches for the Wolves. Singles winners were Anna Lea Stevens, Bailey McCammon and Austin Wilson.

Wesleyan 4, Dunwoody 1

DUNWOODY — Sophia Strickland, Lauren Alexander and Savannah Strickland won singles matches to lift Wesleyan to a 4-1 win over Dunwoody on Thursday. Katie McLaughlin and Katie Van Leake won in doubles for the Wolves (7-2).

SUGAR HILL — Lanier improved to 5-2 and 3-0 in the region with a 5-0 win over Monroe Area on Thursday. Carlie Overley and Jenna Soucia, along with Lindsey Wong and Meg McRee, won doubles matches for the Longhorns. Morgan Buchholz, Victoria Inman and Liz Handley won singles matches for Lanier.

SNELLVILLE — Berkmar defeated South Gwinnett 4-1 on Thursday afternoon. Gabby Chanthrapaeng, Kayla Aguilera and Christy Enriquez won singles matches, while the doubles duo of Genny Wong and Mary Dang won its match.

CUMMING — Hebron Christian defeated Pinecrest Academy 3-2 on Thursday. Darby Duval and Madison McClung won in singles, while the doubles duo of Abbey Steward and Katie Reynolds won for the Lions (4-2).

APALACHEE — Apalachee dropped a 4-1 decision to Gainesville on Thursday. Chandler Hagan won in singles for the Wildcats (2-3).

DULUTH — Peachtree Ridge swept Mountain View 5-0 Thursday to improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the region.

BLUE RIDGE — Skyler Wilson and Avery Turner along with Truett Adams and Katriel Barcourt won doubles matches to lift Buford to a 5-0 win over Fannin County on Thursday. Nicholas Becker, Titus Clark and Josh Thompson won singles matches for the Wolves (7-3, 4-0).

SUGAR HILL — Lanier swept Monroe Area on Thursday night to improve to 4-3 and 3-0 in the region. Hojun Lee and Armin Zmajevac along with Paul Seo and Mark Maddox won in doubles for the Longhorns. Kevin Wagner, Kyle Galloway and Nehal Patel won singles matches for Lanier.

SNELLVILLE — Berkmar defeated South Gwinnett 3-2 on Thursday night. Alex Chanthrapaeng and David Cuellar won singles matches, while Ricardo Gonzalez and Juan Martinez won in doubles for the Patriots.

CUMMING — Hebron Christian defeated Pinecrest Academy 4-1 on Thursday to improve to 6-0 on the season.

SUWANEE — Wesleyan goalie Aaron Smay made 24 saves to help the Wolves defeat Collins Hill 7-6 on Thursday night.

Matt Zimmerman led Wesleyan with three goals.

Vince Guadagno led the Eagles (4-3) with two goals. Russell Gardner had five face-off wins and seven groundballs for Collins Hill.

North Gwinnett 12, Wesleyan 7

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett improved to 6-1 on the season with a 12-7 win over Wesleyan on Thursday.

Jullian Polanski had three goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs. Haley Gorke had two goals and Chase Battle had two draw controls for North. Mary Koward had three goals for the Wolves, while Ashlee Fincher had a strong game on defense.

GAINESVILLE — Reece Brooks, a girl at Hebron Christian, played with the boys teams and was low medalist as the Lions defeated Riverside Military 197-210 on Thursday. Brooks shot a 42 from the boys tees to earn low medalist honors.

SNELLVILLE — Brookwood defeated Parkview 168-198 in a match played at Summit Chase Country Club on Thursday. Shawn Chong and Blaine Ewing led the Broncos with 38 and 41, respectively.

Parkview was led by Braden Gibbs’ 45.

DULUTH — Norcross defeated Mountain View 183-186 on Thursday in a match played at Berkeley Hills Country Club. Evan Hass shot a 41 to lead the Blue Devils.
