Gladiators’ Haddad named ECHL player of week

DULUTH — Gwinnett Gladiators captain Joey Haddad was named the ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 24 through March 2 on Tuesday. He scored four goals and added four assists for eight points as the Gladiators went 3-1-0 last week.

The 25-year-old scored a short-handed goal in a 4-1 win against Evansville last Tuesday, tallied three points in a 4-2 victory over Florida on Friday, had a goal and an assist in a 5-4 win against the Everblades on Saturday and ended the week with a goal in a 5-3 loss against Florida on Sunday.

Haddad leads the Gladiators this season with 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 50 games and is riding a five-game goal streak. In 218 career ECHL games with Gwinnett and Wheeling, the Sydney, Nova Scotia, native has 162 points and 11 points in 64 career American Hockey League games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Bridgeport and Hamilton.

The next goal Haddad scores for the Gladiators will be his 50th in a Gwinnett sweater.

On behalf of Haddad, a case of pucks will be donated to a Gwinnett youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.
