PREP ROUNDUP: Brookwood wins twice in Alabama

AUBURN — Brookwood’s boys soccer team picked up two wins over ranked Alabama teams over the weekend. The Broncos topped No. 6 Grissom 1-0 Friday and No. 4 Mountain Brook 2-1 Saturday.

Friday night, Brahan Gamarra scored off a pass from Jimmy Ryan while Andy Harris and Nate Hopkins shared the shutout in goal.

In Saturday’s game, Jordan Locke and Alfredo Rivera scored goals, both on assists from Gamarra. Harris, who has a .27 goals against average so far this season for Brookwood (6-0), picked up the win in net.


GAC 1, Auburn (AL) 0

AUBURN — Will Hamryka scored and Marius Heislitz posted the shutout in net as Greater Atlanta Christian defeated Auburn (Ala.) 1-0 Saturday in the Border Battle held in Alabama.

Shiloh 2, Loganville 1 OT

LOGANVILLE — Adrian Lollar scored the decisive goal and Ozzy Hasanovic made it hold up as Shiloh (3-1) defeated Loganville 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout Friday night.

Mountain Brook (Ala.) 0

AUBURN — Greater Atlanta Christian defeated the defending state champion and current No. 1 ranked Mountain Brook (Ala.) 3-0 on Saturday. The victory, in the Border Battle, improved the Spartans’ record to 5-1-1. Goalie Melissa Gray posted the shutout for GAC and also scored on a penalty kick. Reagan Glisson and Halle Huff also scored for the Spartans.


Collins Hill sweeps a pair

BUFORD — Collins Hill defeated Grayson 16-8 and then defeated Peachtree Ridge 8-7 in a sudden death second overtime Saturday at the Gwinnett Invitational Tournament.

Abby Squires scored the winning goal against the Lions, one of her six in the game. Emily Napierala added two goals for the Eagles (4-1). Laine Simmons made 18 saves to keep Collins Hill close.

Against Grayson, Squires had seven goals and Simmons added nine saves. Kate Dougherty added three goals and Calli Star had two goals and three assists for Collins Hill.

Duluth wins consolation bracket at Spartan Shootout

NORCROSS — After dropping its opening match Friday, Duluth won both its contests Saturday to win the Consolation bracket at the GAC Spartan Shootout.

The Wildcats (3-1) defeated Rockdale County 17-5 and ML King 17-3. Freshman Shelby Martin was named to the All Tournament teams after scoring eight goals and adding four assists over the three games. Rebecca Graham and Jessica Seoane also contributed eight and seven goals, respectively, for the Wildcats.


Mountain View sweeps a pair

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View swept a doubleheader and had its first no-hitter in school history as the Bears defeated Eastside 2-0 and Apalachee 6-3 Saturday.

A.J. Moore and Ben Utley combined on the no-hitter against Eastside. Moore pitched six innings and struck out eight. Utley pitched the seventh for the save. Forrest Girardeau drove in a run for Mountain View (4-1).

Facing Apalachee, Tyler Zak pitched four innings to get the win. Utley had three hits and and RBI while Girardeau and Brad Weaver each had two hits.

North Gwinnett 4,

Johns Creek 1

JOHNS CREEK — North Gwinnett broke open a 1-1 tie in the 8th inning and held on to defeat Johns Creek 4-1 Saturday. Kyle Shumeyko, Alex Hartz, Avery Kenyon, Wes Brooks and Blake Sangster all contributed to the three-run outburst for the win. Connor Darling pitched seven innings, striking out 10. John Michael Diedrich picked up the win in relief for North (4-1).

Paulding County 9,

Norcross 8

NORCROSS — Norcross fell to 2-2 on the season with a 9-8 loss to Paulding County on Saturday. Jacob Gassert had four hits to lead the Blue Devils offense.

Griffin Helms, Jascanel Ferreras, Devin Geraghty and Yuuki Bomar each had two hits for Norcross.

GAC 7, North Atlanta 4

ATLANTA — Greater Atlanta Christian improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-4 win over North Atlanta on Saturday. Peyton McGuire picked up the win as he threw five innings and struck out eight. McGuire also helped his own cause by driving in two runs. Wade Cox went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Spartans. Ben Childers picked up the save for GAC.

Brookwood 9, Collins Hill 6

SUWANEE — Brookwood picked up its first win of the season with a 9-6 win over Collins Hill Saturday. Brook Baughcum and Mason LeBlanc homered for the Broncos (1-3). Johnathon White and Derick Carswell each collected two hits for Brookwood. Parker Farschman picked up the victory, pitching six innings and striking out three.

Mill Creek 5, Hillgrove 0

HOSCHTON — Jack Flemming pitched six shutout innings to lead Mill Creek to a 5-0 win over Hillgrove on Saturday. Flemming struck out eight as Mill Creek evened its record at 2-2 on the season. Austin Parham had three hits and Logan Moseley had a pair and drove in two runs for the Hawks.

Providence Christian 10, Brookstone 8

NORCROSS — Providence Christian picked up its first win of the season defeating Brookstone 10-8 Saturday. Garrett Whitlock notched the win on the mound, hurling four innings and striking out nine while not allowing a run. Campbell Baldwin and Chris Brown each had two hits and drove in a run for the Storm (1-3). Carey Spratlin had a hit, stole two bases and drove in two runs for Providence.


Norcross Wins in Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND — Norcross won the Lady Terror Invitational Saturday, besting 26 other teams. Bailey Tardy and Camille Streeter combined to shoot 62 to lead the Blue Devils.
