George Charles Leist, passed away suddenly on June 21, 2014. He was born March 26, 1931 and raised in Elroy Wisconsin. He was valedictorian of his senior class at Elroy High School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1953 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. After graduating he served a stint in the Army. After being honorably discharged he married the former Corlea Marie Shaker in 1955. He began his career in Metallurgical Engineering with Union Carbide/Elkem Metals. While working he lived in Niagara Falls, NY, Marietta, OH, Ashtabula, OH, and finally Florence, AL where he was plant superintendent. He retired in 1985 and lived in Florence until 2000. He lived in Dacula until earlier this year when he moved to Garden Plaza in Lawrenceville. He was preceded in death by his wife Corlea in 2001, and his son James Robert Leist in 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Jolene Taylor and son-in law David, daughter-in-law Cherie Leist, As well as numerous nieces and nephews. George was a storyteller/historian and a lot of it was Wisconsin related. He also enjoyed history, especially WWII as well as annual fishing trips to Wisconsin with his son and more recently his grandson Joseph. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle as well as a friend to many. He was active in his church and Senior Sunday School class. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held on Friday, June 27th at 11:30am at Dacula UMC with Reverend Alex Shroud presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8pm at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral and Crematory at 201 Morningside Dr., Buford, GA 30518, (770)945-9999.
