SUWANEE — A female driver escaped with non-life threatening injuries after a tractor-trailer rolled onto her car Thursday afternoon in Suwanee.

Gwinnett County fire department spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said crews were called to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road near Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that the trailer portion of a semi truck had somehow separated from the cab and crashed over the median onto the victim’s vehicle.

Photos taken by Rutledge showed the entire driver’s side of the car smashed in.

“The female driver of the passenger car was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters,” Rutledge said. ” … The woman was conscious, alert and breathing and was able to crawl partially out of the vehicle.”

Somehow, the woman escaped with non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt. The accident was being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.

All lanes of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road were temporarily closed.
